Four out of Five

Last week I was very impressed when I went to see the MAGS school production completely led, written and produced by students. The show received incredible comments from everyone who went who appeared just as impressed as I was. It was a story about five teenagers who become friends at a school called Mt Alfred. We were swept up with laughter and smiles as we watch the all too familiar scene of school life played out before us and shocked as we watch one of the nicest characters die in a fight. Many of us in the audience were reduced to tears as the group falls apart and all the characters go their own way, some of them losing their only friends. The story was well written, well presented and the songs, also written by a MAGS student, were very good. The play felt like a professionally run play, not just a school play run by students and if the show I saw was not their last one, I would have most likely come back, dragging anyone and everyone I could with me.

How well do you know your teacher? And other really strange facts about Education…

Mrs Bartholemew with the glasses or Mr Wilcox who always wears a tie… Do you ever ask how their weekend was? Do you know how many children he has, and whether she prefers cats or dogs? Can he speak another language? Where is she going for her holidays?   Some of the teachers at MAGS might really surprise you!  Many are very well travelled and a few even know how to burn the candle at both ends – when they’re not busy marking that is.      In the very dim distant past – the ‘olden days’ - back before television, there were some pretty weird rules that teachers had to obey. Here are just a few of these RULES FOR TEACHERS for your entertainment…   * You must be home between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless attending a school function.   * You may not loiter downtown in any ice cream stores.   * You may not travel beyond the city limits without permission of the chairmen of the board.   * You may not smoke cigarettes.   * You may not under any circumstances dye your hair.   *

I Recommend... Inspector George Gently

Image
Set during the nineteen sixty's, this british cop drama revolves around it's titular character Inspector George Gently and his partner Detective Sergeant  Bacchus  as they invesatgate all kinds of crimes from murder, to robbery to kidnapping all set agianst the backdrop of nineteen sixty's england North East England. This brilliant drama perfectly catches the look and feel of it's time period and touches on the big political and social events and changes at the time. The characters, side and main, are all loveable and endearing but also very human in all their flaws. The mystery's are engaging and fascinating as well as the side plots revolving around the main characters. If you like a good detective drama or even period pieces I would definitely recommend this series.

The story of magical circus set in Victorian London, a unique and fascinating story which you have to check out. Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Writer Geoff Johns 9 year run on the comic book series Green Lantern is a must read for any Science Fiction fan. Yes, this may be a comic book - but it is as good as any sci-fi book you've read before. It has a huge mythology, great characters and a epic story. Read it, trust me. TV -  Nigel Latta Blows Stuff Up Do you like science? Explosions? Nigel Latta? Then watch this show. The title pretty much sums it up. Penguins of Madagascar/Teen Titans GO! You can be a child at heart. It fine. And if you are - then you should watch these shows! These shows are some of the best animated comedy's ever. They are insane, fun but a

HOW TO COPE WITH THE WINTER BLUES

By Kate Todd Winter is in full force and this term is ELEVEN weeks long. How will we cope? As the days get shorter and the nights get colder, even the best of us can feel a bit down. The "winter blues" are characterized by the mild depression, lack of motivation, and low energy that many of us experience during this cold season. Luckily, there’s a lot you can do to both prevent the blues and get yourself back to normal if they’re already here. 1. Exercise Exercise isn’t only for maintaining your weight and staying healthy. It’s great for relieving the stresses of life. Plus, the effects of a workout can last for several hours after you hit the showers. You’ll have more energy throughout the day, and your metabolism with stay elevated too. Exercise also helps your mind by releasing those "feel good chemicals" that improve your mood.  2. Eat Healthy What and when you eat has a big affect on your mood and energy. Avoid processed foods
